In 1958, a group of law enforcement officers met and formed the Western Colorado Peace Officer Association. Since that time, WCPOA has provided training to thousands of officers and support staff. WCPOA conferences provide training along with networking opportunities.
Membership is open to full-time peace officers, special agents of railroad companies, district attorneys, dispatchers, federal agents, fire department investigators, and support staff of the above listed agencies. We welcome membership from all over Colorado, and conference attendance is also open to law enforcement personnel from surrounding states.
WCPOA is dedicated to providing great training at minimal costs. The Board members are currently working on two conferences, a Winter Conference and a Spring Conference, both to be held in Grand Junction.
Officer Election Coming at Spring Conference - If you are interested in becoming an officer of WCPOA, please submit your name to a Board member or e-mail us at info@wcpoa.com. All nominations will be reviewed by the Board for inclusion in a paper ballot election. Officers to be elected are President, 1st Vice-President, and 2nd Vice-President. No nominations will be accepted from the floor during elections. We also welcome volunteers for all committees, so please let us know if you are interested.
The Winter Conference on February 13th will focus on Social Media such as My Space, Facebook, Twitter and Craig's list. This class will provide go-bys for court orders and preservation requests, as well as discussing departmental policies to allow LEO's to conduct such investigations. Topics will include tools needed for internet investigations, hardware, software, connectivity, and safety. This conference will be limited to sworn law enforcement officers and analysts, and will include a working lab. Click here for more info: Social Media Training
The Spring Conference will feature training by Alexis Artwohl, Ph.D., on April 25th and 26th, 2012. Dr. Artwohl is an internationally recognized behavioral science consultant to law enforcement as a trainer, researcher and author. She is an advisory board member for the Force Science Institute ( www.forcescience.org) and the International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association ( www.ileeta.org) . She also serves as the Behavioral Sciences Section Chair for the National Tactical Officers Association. Dr. Artwohl is co-author of the book DEADLY FORCE ENCOUNTERS and other publications. Lt. Col. Dave Grossman (Retired) comments on this book: "A superb book. It is destined to become a classic. It should be mandatory reading for all members of the professions or arms, in blue or green."
Details on the Spring Conference will be posted soon.
